AMISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD
Amish Friendship Bread Starter Recipe:
Ingredients:
(1) (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
¼ c. warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
3 c. all-purpose flour, divided
3 c. white sugar, divided
3 c. milk
Directions:
1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Let stand 10 minutes. In a 2-quart container (glass, plastic or ceramic), combined 1 cup flour and 1 cup sugar. Mix thoroughly or flour will lump when milk is added. Slowly stir in 1 cup milk and dissolved yeast mixture. Cover loosely and let stand until bubbly. Consider this day 1 of the 10-day cycle. Leave loosely covered at room temperature.
Day 1: Put Amish Friendship bread starter in deep bowl and cover with paper towel.
Days 2 – 4: Stir only.
Day 5: Add 1 c. milk, flour and sugar. Stir.
Days 6 – 9: Stir only.
Day 10: Add 1 c. milk, flour and sugar. Stir. Remove 3 c. starter and put 1 c. each into 3 containers and give to friends with a copy of the recipe. You can keep 1 starter for yourself.
To Remaining Batter Add: (do
not use mixer)
1 c. oil, 2 t. vanilla, 2 t. baking powder, ½ t. salt, ½ t. soda, ½ t. cinnamon, 1 c. nuts, 1 small can drained pineapple. Stir till smooth. Pour into greased 9” x 13” pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-60 minutes.
