Easter
The Disciples Did Not
Understand
by
Richard Fisher
“The
first section was studying the time-space relationship later formulated by
Einstein as his Theory of Relativity.
The text was complex and, being unable to comprehend it, I committed the
pages to memory. When I was called upon
to recite, I solemnly reeled off almost word for word what the book said. Our instructor, Colonel Fieberger, looked at
me somewhat quizzically and asked, ’Do you understand
this theory?’ It was a bad moment for me, but I did not hesitate in
replying, "No,
sir." You could have heard a pin
drop. I braced myself and waited.
And then the slow words of the professor:
‘Neither do I, Mr. MacArthur.
Section dismissed.’"
The disciples did not always understand
Jesus’ teachings. Notice what Jesus
taught His disciples sometime before Good Friday and Easter. Luke 18:31-33 "Jesus took the twelve
aside & told them, ‘We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is
written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. He will be handed over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him, spit on him,
flog him and kill him. On the third day
he will rise again.’” It is clear by
their words and actions that the disciples did not understand what Jesus was
saying. Before we come down too hard on
the disciples, how many who have heard the Easter message understand? But then the Holy Spirit speaks to our
hearts, and we begin to realize that this is a personal message. We confess Jesus as our Savior & become
His disciples. Then what used to be
foolishness is now wisdom. What used to
be weakness is now power & strength.
Suddenly, it all makes sense.
Christ is Alive!! He can be alive in your heart if you will ask
forgiveness of your sins and by faith invite Him into your life. Then you will understand the God’s love,
peace and so many other blessings.
